During my stay in the village, I met with representatives of the administration, border guards and our countrymen. It was a surprise to learn that at one of Dixon’s enterprises, 25 war veterans (!) Have been working since recently. According to IA Arktika-Info (http://www.arctic-info.ru): The population of the village of Dixon on the Taimyr Peninsula will increase by 3 thousand people. The decision was made in the framework of the development of a large coal deposit on the peninsula. The Taimyr coal basin is one of the largest coal deposits on the planet. According to experts, coal reserves of various categories here are about 10 billion tons.
In the village there was a storage of fuel for 5 thousand cubic meters and construction of the quay was started. In the summer of 2016, Dixon’s population numbered about 600 people. To date, about 200 families have moved to Dixon.
One day on behalf of Metropolitan of Khanty-Mansiysk and Surgut Paul in the Church of St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker, we handed over a copy of the icon of the Queen of Heaven “Otrada i Uteshenie”. A member of the expedition – Roman Chumakov, known as Roma Zhigan made a concert in the House of Culture. In the evenings we played volleyball with a local team. Friendship won!
At 11.00 we leave on the return route. Sincerely say goodbye to the people of the village who are seeing us off. Thank you for the warmth, openness and simplicity of communication. During the many years of the expedition, Dixon children have grown up before our eyes. Someone was still in elementary school, and today is already on the verge of obtaining a certificate of maturity. We can not but be proud of our own, albeit small, involvement in the desire of adolescents to associate their lives with military service, enter a military school, devote their lives to serving the Motherland.
On the way back, the officers of the special subdivision of the Ministry of Defense continue to fulfill a number of tasks: during the nomination they study the physical and geographical properties of the Arctic region; develop the order of the group’s actions in a sudden encounter with the enemy on the march and when placed on the spot; the procedure for providing first aid and ways of transporting the wounded in arctic conditions; They conduct combat firing from special weapons with optical, night and thermal imaging sights.
