Only when you see these people in front of you, in the hall where the press conference on the results of the expedition takes place, do you understand how difficult and dangerous is the duel between a man and the Arctic. “The Northern Troopers” annually leave for the Arctic to make it more understandable for humanity, to study the influence of people on the most inaccessible region of Russia, to formulate the principles of the future Russian Arctic civilization.

Literally burned by the North (burns from frost, storm wind and solar ultraviolet are not much different from fire burns), the expedition members now look like fighters emerging from a difficult battle. They are slowly and somehow tiredly talking about how the expedition was going, about its difficulties, about what they could learn in a month spent alone with the Arctic.

Restoring Russia’s full-fledged presence in the Arctic requires the interaction of the Defense Ministry with civilian structures. Among the tasks to be accomplished in the framework of such interaction are monitoring of the situation, including environmental monitoring, clarifying maps, establishing contacts with the local population, and finally preparing soldiers for prolonged stay and work in the Arctic. One of the most successful programs of this kind is the expedition “Northern landing” that is constantly operating under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society, headed by the Russian businessman, veteran of the Airborne Forces Alexander Peterman.

The Russian expedition of Arctic travelers “Northern landing”, which started on March 15 from Nizhnevartovsk, reached the northernmost point of Eurasia – Cape Chelyuskin at the 78th latitude. It took two weeks for the Arctic travelers to snowmobile in the conditions of a severe storm and an evil blizzard to follow the planned route the village of Tazovsky-Antipayut-Gyda-Dixon-Cape Sterligov-Cape Chelyuskin.
